I'm still here

Feb. 14th, 2008 | 12:55 am

It's the morning of valentine's day.

I'm finishing a short (1500 word) paper on Hitler's role in the Holocaust

And listening to Slayer's 1986 classic album "Reign in Blood"

life is...the same as its been but Irony is fun

I am completely screwed. I had to skip classes today to submit a paper by the end of the night and my internal network card is fried so I can't use the internet (ethernet) in my dorm room, but wireless works for now in commons

And I have 8 days to research for the huge paper that I haven't started. Since I'm going home this weekend that number is now 2

I  get to spend my birthday debating in Rochester next weekend (yay), now to figure out how to write the paper and briefs (uh oh)

Prelim spring schedule

Mondays- nothing!

Tuesday- 7:25 to 8:15- American Civil Liberties
9:35 to 10:25- History of the Holocaust
                 11:45 to 1:30- Constitutional History since 1877
                 3:00-4:55- History of American Education
                 6:15- 8ish- debate

Wednesday- 4:05-7:10- American Science Fiction

Thursday- 7:25 to 9:20: American Civil Liberties
9:35 to 10:25- History of the Holocaust
                  12:50 to 1:30- Constitutional History since 1877
                  4:05-4:55- History of American Education

Friday- 10:40 to 11:30- History of the Holocaust discussion section

When I resolve things with an advisor about adding history practicum/dropping conditioning I might remove either the constitutional history or the education history

Still need to add credit for debate

welcome to hell month again

Nov. 3rd, 2007 | 09:34 pm
mood: bad overall
music: Serj Tankian: Empty Walls

2 small papers due this week, one large one due before thanksgiving, one larger one due after thanksgiving

Briefs due November 19

Have to drop Conditioning because I've missed many more classes due to illness (unexcused because I didn't go to the clinic) than I am allowed to make up

Lots of debate work to do to as well, but that isn't bad and it helps (made it to semifinals at the last tournament :) )

Registration in 5 days and hopefully this time there will be open slots for the classes I want, ideal schedule is: American Civil Liberties, History of the Holocaust, History Practicum, Southern Politics, Intercollegiate Forensics (credit for debate), Weight Training 1, and American Science Fiction Honors (I already have this one)

I turn 20 in two weeks, woo

no debate this time

Oct. 4th, 2007 | 06:41 pm
mood: upset

gastroenteritis+onset of a really bad cold+temporary inability to feel blood sugar symptoms=not going to vegas this weekend :(

pain>nothing at all, but no pain >>>this pain!

music: Iron Maiden: The Clairvoyant

Good- debate tournament in vegas this weekend

Bad- flights to/from vegas=3 hour jet lag and missing "mandatory extra credit lecture", missing D&D game but the DM can easily write me out this week (got turned to stone and sold so I had to build a new character)

Really bad- Quiz on a book the day I get back, midterm first thing in the morning wednesday I get back and conditioning midterm later that day, midterm thursday I get back, messed up sleep patterns and put off bloodwork far too long

Just under two weeks until I get the big paper for Con Law. Writing that and the big paper for America in the Fifties Honors in about 1 month time=PAIN Minipapers and reading is adding up. Need free time to play guitar and wii
Current difficulty sleeping is not helping either

On an unrelated note, why would a history teacher ask this question of a quiz about the book Cry, The Beloved Country: "Who is Pamela Anderson currently getting married to?"

debate camp was fun. Had an incompetent partner and went 1-6 in the camp tournament but I learned a lot about debate and the middle east. Also learned to appreciate my regular partner a lot more.

Went to a nightclub for the first time, fun but somewhat uncomfortable.

Started playing WOW but I don't like it enough to get stupidly addicted to it.

Can't wait to go back to gainesville and debate/study/play dungeons and dragons

done with my job

Jul. 29th, 2007 | 11:59 am
music: Metallica: Master of Puppets

finally, no more 8 hour days on the job making collections calls, here were some of the more odd calls I recieved (no names because I don't remember and if I did it would probably be illegal to post them)

1. A voice message that began: "hey you stupid f***ing bill collectors...(lots of profanity) if you call me again I will make you pay my cell phone bill.

2. A guy insisting that he only owed $200 even though he charged more than that to his card and didn't pay that amount back but he didn't file paperwork disputing the rest.

3. Female saying she won't pay because of the high interest rates and fees after she was late on payments, wouldn't accept a plan reducing the APR by 9% because it 'would still be too high', seemed to get angry when I told her what happens if she kept refusing to pay (3rd party collectors and/or lawsuits)

4. A guy insisting he wasn't behind and sent a payment in july, but refused to tell me when he sent one or how much it was for. Then he said he wanted to get sued for the balance (roughly 800) plus 320 in fees and an uncalculatable amount of interest (not his words)

5. "I don't care about my credit I'm dying of cancer" (her words)

A coworker had one with "I'm not going to pay because I'm waiting on the results of my murder trial" (not even the manager knew how to respond to that)

predictions for HP 7:

Harry is a horcrux and has to die in order to finish off Voldemort. However he will live on in spirit as Harry Weasly, with Neville as godfather and Molly as a grandmother

Percy will become a death eater

Snape is loyal to the order and had agreed to kill Albus

others to come later,

mood: varying but usually sad

strange supreme court decisions regarding the first amendment and desegregation

Tragic double murder/suicide of one of the best wrestlers ever where the details get even more bizarre by the day

White house attempting to achieve dictatorial powers

getting even more difficult accounts at work

trying to learn electric guitar

this has been one hell of a week, most of it not good

I really do not want to go to work tomorrow, but I have no choice. 25 days I have left to work there

First guitar lesson today, it was fun but my left wrist needs to gain strength and flexibility

Weigel is probably inordinately happy at the Morse v. Frederick ruling (schools can punish student speech if it 'advocates criminal activity').

Still too much time before HP 7 and ADI

watched a documentary called "Maxxed out" about how evil the credit card industry really is. My job isn't at that level luckily but I don't want to work there once this summer ends

on mondays until ADI I will be taking electric guitar lessons, if I like it and can actually play it hopefully I can continue in gainesville

I wonder if debt collection agencies are LN, LE, or NE for the purposes of designing a dungeons and dragons campaign involving them (I'd have to be DM and not use some of my sourcebooks but it could be an interesting adventure)

mood: partially relieved

facebook stat: how do people have fond memories of middle school? mabye my experience just sucked or they have convinced themselves Loggers Run middle was actually a good place, no idea how

tuesday morning is going to be horrible, wake up probably 6:45 to get to work at 8AM when right now I fall asleep after 5 AM

Roomate results are pretty good, one with no facebook info, one with a guide dog, and a nuclear engineering major who apparently has diabtetes and likes to watch O'Reilly. this shall be a fun year

why did I think July 21 was Sunday, not Saturday. Hopefully I can arrange with my supervisor or manager to work the 22 so I can bask in the glory of Harry Potter 7

still too long until the end of July, I gotta get out somehow

back and boredish

May. 6th, 2007 | 07:09 pm

well, the family drama is back in full force, I'm doing my best to avoid it

I might have a job at Publix soon, hopefully tomorrow's interview will go well

mostly I've been replaying Shadow Hearts: Covenant, one of the best games ever made

in the music world: 9 days until United Abominations by Megadeth is released, and 19 days until Weird Al in concert at Pompano. Hopefully I will be able to get the album and go to the concert.

still no open slot in American Constitutional Law, so it goes

exams done! now to pack and reflect

Final grades unless there is a major change:

Writing in pre-law honors: A
Microbiology for nonmajors: C (should have taken the easy way out of bio requirements)
Human Sexuality: B (worse than I expected but I did the final in 1/8 the alloted time with my roomate watching supertroopers)
Race Law: B+ or A (better than I expected)

This puts my final GPA at either 3.5 or 3.45, not too bad but it could have been much better

next semester my schedule has been reworked to speech lab (1 credit for debate), intro to interpersonal communication, American Civil Liberties, Israeli Society, America in the Fifties Honors, and Modern Conservatism. The only thing I might change is replace American Civil Liberties with American Constitutional Law. Combine that reading load with debate research and it will be fun.

One hell of a contradiction when I say I will get out more and then have that kind of schedule. hello academic pain!
